AI Literacy - Intro into AI

A course that provides foundational knowledge and insight into artificial intelligence and how it works

EDIH-IS and the Open University at Reykjavík University now offer a new introductory course in artificial intelligence, AI Literacy - Intro to AI. The course is taught by Saga Úlfarsdóttir, who holds a master’s degree in artificial intelligence from the Technical University of Denmark and specialises in machine learning.

On the Open University’s website, the course is described as follows: “Participants are guided through the development of AI, key system types (such as predictive models, chat systems, and autonomous systems), and how Icelandic companies and institutions apply these technologies. The course also covers ethical considerations, data bias, and risks related to privacy and the use of closed AI systems. The goal is to equip participants with the knowledge needed to make informed and responsible decisions about integrating AI into their own organizations.”

“Almost everyone at any age is now using AI-powered chat solutions, while certain groups want nothing to do with them. Everything is evolving very quickly, and the future direction is still uncertain, so it’s natural that some fear surrounds the topic. Most companies are excited about the opportunities the technology offers, but few have done substantial work around it or developed a policy for its use.”

According to Saga, the course is particularly valuable for anyone who wants to understand how AI works in real-world settings, without needing deep technical knowledge.

The course is offered in both Icelandic and English. It is delivered online and accessible through the Open University’s learning platform.

You can read more about the course on the Open University's website.
